RONDEL

He will be with His saints;
His saints will be with Him,
Beyond the present grim
Restrictions and complaints.

Recall, amid restraints,
When all around seems dim:
He will be with His saints;
His saints will be with Him.

Already He acquaints
Our souls with joys that brim;
More blest than cherubim,
As drawn by love's constraints,
He will be with His saints;
His saints will be with Him.

HIS SAINTS

They have enrolled in that grand company

"The dead in Christ": the saints who gave God pleasure
From Abel onward; who served faithfully,
Spoke often of Him, and became His treasure.

They laboured for the Lord and for His own
As He Himself delighted to record
Till in His love and wisdom they have known
The blessedness of dying "in the Lord".

Jesus they loved and spoke with day by day
Since He had laid His life down for His sheep:
Enduring death, He took death's sting away:
He touched them, and through Him they are asleep.

Behold He comes! They will arise to meet
With all His own at that exalted tryst
And in transformed, immortal bodies greet
Our glorious Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

EDDY AND KITTY

Oh you should have seen Eddy and Kitty dance

With an elegant turn and a sally;
With a twirl and a whirl you could see them prance
At the Ritz, the Rotunda or Palais.

But the Saviour has touched them with love and grace,
By His word He has drawn them apart;
He has given a home in a better place
And has given a dance in their heart.

Do you think they have danced not to dance again
Long ago in nineteen forty-seven?
Do you not all await that occasion when
They will dance with the ransomed in heaven?

Local brethren both now asleep through Jesus; I wrote this for an anniversary.

AND AGAIN

 The story is: one night I woke up and thought about the five "One Things" of the previous post. Completely forgetting I had already written about them I wrote the one below.  I could blame old age but some bits of my memory have never been very good!

Secure in law-keeping;

Secure in your finances,

"One thing lackest thou":

A sense of need.                            Mark 10: 21

Conscious of the grace

That had given the light

"One thing I know ...

Now I see".                                    John 9: 25

One thing is needful:

To take the listening part

That Mary took:

At the feet of Jesus.                        Luke 10: 42

"One thing I do":

The aging apostle could say,

Delineating a way for me:

"I pursue".                                    Philippians 3: 13

"One thing I have desired

Of the Lord": to dwell in His house,

To behold His beauty,

To enquire in His temple".              Psalm 27: 4

GOD'S PEOPLE

            I

Galatians 6:10

In a world of mist and quagmire

See them, eyese to the light,

Stood upon the Rock:

"The household of faith".

1 Peter 3:17, 5: 9

And as you see them

Surrounded by the world's fangs,

Accomplishing sufferings,

"Love the brotherhood".

1 Peter 2: 10

Though once the world claimed

Them its; or Satan his;

Or they even claimed they were their own:

"Now God's people".

HUSHAI

If it was after David worshipped             (2 Samuel 15: 30-37)
On the summit of the mount of Olives
That Hushai appeared, yet it was
Torn-clothed and with earth on
His head.  To be no burden to
The king he was sent be
Faithful in the false court.
There deluding Absalom by
His honesty: “Long live the king  ….”     (2 Samuel 16: 16-18)
(Over the water) he masterfully
Acted treacherously for truth,
For if he loved pureness of heart,
With grace on his life not only
In the cabinet was he the king’s            (1 Chronicles 27: 33)
Friend: the king was his friend.             (Proverbs 22: 11)

RAISINCAKES

The vine had budded, blossomed and produced

Its grapes; they had been picked, and dried and pressed

And brought to David’s men, where they conduced

To show the graces Abigail expressed.

So some were given to the Egyptian slave

In his distress, so that his soul grew strong;

As brought back from the frontier of the grave,

He led against those who did David wrong.

Thus David, when he came to celebrate

The ark of God borne to a settled place

Gave with the bread and wine, joy was so great,

A raisin-cake as token of God’s grace.

And now sustaining food from the True Vine

Through grace and pressure may be yours and mine!

JOHN

Consciously the disciple whom Jesus

Loved, you followed:

For you had leaned on Him

And you, in that nearness, had

Enquired: these features displayed

Such as continue to the end.

JAMES

Was the training - one

Of the select: taken to the house

Of Jairus, the mountain of glory,

The garden of distress - squandered

On the point of Herod's sword?

No; you had thus formed in

Perfection heaven required.

A fisherman's life - finding:
Messias found, your thought
Was first to find your brother
- Earliest fisher of men.
And the boy with loaves and fishes
You discovered: may I have such
Divine serendipity!
