Their hatred made the lords of Israel fling
The prophet Jeremiah in a pit,
In mud, till Ebed-melech moved the king
To let him draw the prophet out of it.
Since this was something that God loved to see
His word declared an honour that was fit
"For thou hast put thy confidence in me"!
May we always put our confidence in the Lord our God. Blessings, David!
ReplyDeleteI see you're on a Old Testament roll! Lots to think about.
ReplyDeleteSo much about Jeremiah to think about. "Jeremiad", that little used word, for an expression that is a "real downer", as we Americans say. Yet Jeremiah spoke of the new covenant and so much more.
The evil king's faithful servant-- looking after Jeremiah, even though the king was hateful to the prophet.
I've been leading a class on the Apocrypha at our church since Fall 2023, though we don't believe in the Apocrypha. That has a Letter of Baruch, Jeremiah's secretary.
Looking at some of the minor characters in the Old Testament who helped carry God's testimony forward. I've spoken about Baruch but I don't think I've written about him.
