The Tree of Life planted within the garden
Was even then attractionless to Adam
And when at length the Lord was seen in manhood,
One Sprout of green, within a desert landscape,
Men saw no beauty and found Him unattractive.
But by God's grace saved from the power of darkness
Our taste is changed with all our hearts' reactions
So that to Christ our new affections answer:
We are replete in scenes that once seemed barren.
We love the Olive Tree whence we gain fatness;
We love the sweetness hung in the Fig Tree's
We love the Vine which moves our hearts to gladness.

  1. I love this verse, especially the last line. He IS the only Vine and because we have the fortune to be his branches it brings to our hearts joy unspeakable.

    I also like how this free verse expresses how our tastes change when we become new creatures in Christ.

    Take care.

  2. This is so moving, David. May we all be grafted into the eternal Vine that is Jesus.

  3. Oh my goodness, that last line... I love it. We love the Vine which moves our hearts to gladness. Thanks David.

I'm glad to hear how this strikes you!
