APOSTLE AND HIGH PRIEST

Apostle and High Priest of our confession,
Through moral worth and through God's sovereign choice;
A Priest to whom there can be no succession;
Thy voice will have no superseding voice.

AUTHOR OF ETERNAL SALVATION

Author of salvation which will never end,
Songs of exultation lovingly ascend,
Glad that God conveyed Thee to His home above,
Those who have obeyed Thee celebrate Thy love.

ANOINTED

We hail Thee, the Anointed,
Whose place thy God appointed
That all this world's disjointed
Relations might be whole;
Thy horn shall be exalted,
Thy praise shall not be halted,
And songs not to be faulted
Rise from each ransomed soul.

ANCIENT OF DAYS

Ancient of days, Thou art
The Judge of all, whose ways
In righteous mercy move my heart

ALPHA AND OMEGA

Alpha and Omega,

Each letter sounds for Thee,
Each word redounds to Thee,
Each song propounds through Thee
Each forming phrase.

AMEN

"Amen, amen",
These were Thy words, O Lord;
And those Thy truth acquired Thee bow
Acknowledging with joy that Thou
Art the Amen.

"Amen, amen" is what is often translated, "Verily, verily".

I'm doing some single verse songs about the title, names and offices of the Lord Jesus; this is the first.

NURSERY CONVERSATION

(As overheard by my daughter)

The first boy said that God made everything,
The sun and stars ... and how we may rejoice
Before the God of heavenly hosts, and sing
Since we can answer to their speechless voice.
But we can have a deeper link with God
Since He did something far more marvellous
To cause our souls to sound His praise abroad,
For, as the boy continued, God made us.

His friend moved on to the particular
And showed that no creation is beneath
The thought of God , by whom all beings are,
Because, he answered, "Yes, and God made teeth".

And one should thank this Maker when one eats a
Meal, for the third boy added, "God made pizza".

ESTHER

If, being purified for her king
With oil of myrrh, with spices,

She could be found by the king
To be lovable,

And could bring solemn truth
To her king's attention,

And enact justice upon
Her people's oppressors,

All rooted in the nobility that said,
"If I perish, I perish".

THE KING

God has secured an everlasting kingdom

And introduced another kind of kingship

By one who proved His every act was king-like

And demonstrated His expertise in kingcraft.

Jesus is King, true as no other king is

Because His blood establishes the King’s peace;

Grace is the salient principle of His kinghood

Through righteousness in which His rule is kingly.

And with Him rule the ones who are His kindred

Who know the Lord as their Redeemer-Kinsman -

Not merely His as simply fleshly kinsfolk

But made His own in an eternal kinship.

REDEEMER

I know that He lives

Who shed His blood that He might

Be my Redeemer.

MY REDEEMER

Not only do I know that grace
Redeems and blesses and forgives,
I know that my Redeemer lives!

Not only did God's care outpace
My sins when we were fugitives,
I know that my Redeemer lives!

Not only do I know the place
Of blessing which God's favour gives,
I know that my Redeemer lives!

Not only pardoned I abase
My heart to His prerogatives:
I know that my Redeemer lives!

WITNESSES

The cross of Christ, on which He bore
The sins of all who own His claim,
Displays that God, for evermore,
Has finished with the man of shame
And shows the fulness of God's grace
Which has secured our heavenly place.

The blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son,
Propitiation for all sin,
Is witness that the work is done
Which makes us free to come within
The presence of a holy God
To know His love; to give Him laud.

The water from His smitten side
Is witness that His work's complete;
And in each mind that work applied
Ensures for us this world's defeat,
For we may be, while here below,
Made clean, by virtue of that flow.

IN JESUS

All that we have, we have in Jesus:

Our access is through Him alone.

He bore ours sins and condemnation,

But now He’s on the Father’s throne.
